An Analysis of Friendship

The first thing that comes to mind when trying to analyse something that is intangible is ‘how’.

Like all emotions and their more complex occurrences, friendship is not only intangible, but also invisible. It is an association we learn about only indirectly through interactions between individuals. The reality is that we will never find friendship sitting alone on an empty park bench, or come across it at an abandoned school. Unlike dreams, which are visible though intangible, and which can be formed independently by the dreamer, friendship depends on our sociability to arise. So, it cannot be interpreted and analyzed like dreams have been over the years. This invisibility, characteristic of friendship, and which is a result of the social nature of the interaction, becomes not a problem however, but a way in. By focusing on the intangible and the invisible social, we begin to grasp why we are close friends with certain people and not others.
