Fascination with Extremes

With today’s dynamics, we have to really want something to earn it. Those who are unsure, sitting on the fence, get overlooked. Why aren’t we allowed to be normal, balanced people? Even psychiatrists tell those who are depressed that they should be on the other side of the scale, that they should be happy. If someone told me that, I’d get depressed. For one, I don’t think it’s healthy to constantly be happy. You need to be on some drug to achieve that. Also, there’s a difference between being happy and being content. Call me whatever you want, but I think people should strive for the latter. Balance is underrated.

This love-affair with the extremes is creating lost potential where jobs are involved. It’s unreasonable to expect people to know whether or not they want something before attempting it. Talk to any old person though and they’ll ask “What do you want to be?” and “Why?”. I mean I’ve got an idea, a general direction, but how do you expect me to know for sure before trying. Even then, one’s tastes change with time. What I like now might not be what I like in ten years. Continue reading
